Breathe Easier

7 Comments

Sleeping WomanMy favorite way to use Spark Naturals’ Respire Respiratory Blend is in the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine that I am prescribed to use every night for my diagnosis of Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea…yes, I need my CPAP to help me when I stop breathing at night in my sleep…It’s a drag that I need to use this medical device (and travel with it)…but it helps me to breathe easier all through the night and the aroma of Respire Blend opens up my airway and feels so good when it gets down into my lungs. My sleep is now deeper and much more restful. Before my EO life…I would wake-up with jaw pain, headaches and feeling as though I had no sleep at all from the Apnea and TMJ.

Right before I get into bed I also add a couple drops of Shield Protective Blend with the Respire Respiratory Blend into the clean distilled water in the chamber. Shield Blend will help to keep the bacteria that builds up in the machine’s air tubing at bay and it extends the life of the tubing.

Respire Respiratory Blend is a winning combination with Shield Blend, is ideal for germ protection and respiratory issues. When sinuses are clogged, and throats swollen and scratchy, diffuse Respire (or apply topically on the chest or bottom of feet) for almost immediate relief. Acts as an expectorant, soothes airway and may provide relief for colds, cough, sinusitis, asthma, and bronchitis. Relaxes the muscles that become affected during allergy season… and allows for a restful sleep when rubbed on the toe pads.

This breathe easier/sleep better technique using Respire Respiratory Blend and Shield Protective Blend Essential Oils with my Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine works for me.

The more recommended way to incorporate the Spark Naturals pure Essential Oils would be applying them to the bottom of the feet and toe pads as well as rubbing on your chest.

I sometime use Thyme Essential Oil on the bottom of my feet and it helps with snoring. I layer it right on with the sleep salve that I make using the Spark Naturals Dream Sleep Essential Oil Blend.

Although these Essential Oils are diluted by the distilled water in the CPAP chamber…we all know that pure Essential Oils should not be used with plastic (e.g. the CPAP chamber and air tubing.) So I have to make sure that I empty out the distilled EO water in the chamber immediately upon arising and never allow it to sit.

Also, it is very important that I clean the chamber and air tubing regularly with white vinegar, and replace as often as medical insurance allows (or more often) before the EO’s start to break down the plastic.

  2. Amazing! I too use a CPAP and always wondered about using EO’s in the water but I’ve been afraid it would ruin the machine. How long have you been using the EO’s in the CPAP?

    • Jana; I probably started using Spark Natural EO’s right around Nov/Dec 2013. I think you are right it could eventually interact with the plastic parts of the machine, but I was so miserable and it helps so much. I did add this disclaimer to SS FB post.

  3. Does using EOs in a CPAP machine leave any residue in either the tubing or chambers of the machine? Does it cause any problem with deteriorating the plastic parts? Thanks.

    • Hi C.A.;

      I don’t see any residue in my CPAP chamber or anywhere but I clean the chamber and air tubing (then hang it over the shower curtain rod to dry out) regularly with white vinegar, so maybe that takes care of any residue. I do think after a time (and I don’t know exactly how long of a time) the Essential Oils will react with the plastic as we know pure EO’s will. I personally take this risk and each person will decide whether or not they want to try it. Here is the disclaimer I added to SS FB post:

  4. I never thought about adding it to my dad’s VPAP machine. I do diffuse the Shield/Respire blend any time dad has a cough and I have him rub some on his chest. I’ll have to add it to the VPAP’s humidifier and see how he responds to it. I would have been concerned about how it might react with the plastic tubing.

    Thanks for the info!

    • Hi Ret;

      Even though it felt as though the CPAP machine was causing my coughing, sneezing fits and sinus troubles (after regular cleaning with white vinegar) and I think the accordion style air tubing hides bacteria in the crannies and folds. I too am concerned about the reaction with the plastic, but I choose to take the chance knowing how Spark Naturals Essential Oils can get to all that hiding bacteria constantly trying to grow inside the machine. I personally take the chance but I added this info for others to take into consideration:
